The capabilities of GoldMine are normally underutilised. A bold statement, but we frequently hear customers say: "If only GoldMine could..."

The functionality in GoldMine is almost endless, because of the Application Programmers Interface (API) and Software Developers Kit (SDK) that is issued by FrontRange, the owners of GoldMine. Below is a small selection of projects where SquareGiraffe used the API and SDK to enable time savings, and also made GoldMine far more valuable for the companies involved. If these projects pique your interest about a task in GoldMine that you think could be automated, read about our software design philosophy.

Project 1: Synchronised GoldMine's records with a totally different database. This involved downloading an XML file containing updated customer information from an alliance partner. The XML file was analysed and once the record was found based on a specific key field, the updates were made. This process was automatically run at midnight, to prevent disruption during working hours.

Project 2: Intercepted forecast sale completion. When completing the forecast sale with this new process, pending items were moved from the pending tab to the history tab as normal, but was also written to the details tab in a specific format for later merging with Details Plus.

Project 3: Updated the 'lapsed' status of a support contract based on a contract expiry date. A scheduled call was then automatically created for sales staff.

Project 4: Integration with an in-house purchase order system.

Project 5: Analysis of support desk performance. Time elapsed between logging a customer query and the completion of the query was analysed and graphed, to provide support staff with performance metrics. Project 6: Linked an automatic licence issuing program with GoldMine, to produce a fully integrated software licence management system.

Project 7: Linked GoldMine to an Internet based support system, which allowed support calls to be logged directly into GoldMine. These pending support items were also automatically completed when marked as 'done' in the external system.
